106B Family Radio Service
Course Overview:
Family
Radio Service is a new REACT course in a series of courses that
provide basic information on how to use the various types of radio services
available to us for employment in emergency communications. Each course
addresses basic radio communications theory, the controls of typical radios and
their functions, how to use the radios in an emergency, and current Federal
Communications Rules. The Family Radio Service offers a way to communicate with
and render assistance to members of the public and is in common use by a number
of community emergency-related organizations…
Our Family
Radio Service course covers:
The course manual is 22
pages in length and should take no more than 1 hour to complete. There is a
detailed final examination – when you are ready, contact our training staff
at Training@REACTIntl.org to obtain the web
address and password for our online testing system. Continuing education units
are awarded for course completion.
This
course will not make you an expert in the use of Family Radio Service Radios.
It is an introduction. Further skill and knowledge development depend on using
the radios, determining their coverage in your community, and working with
National SOS Network groups and Community Emergency Response Teams. We
encourage you to work with members of your Team to expand your capability to
support Family Radio Service operations in an emergency. When you
develop proficiency, you will make a real contribution to improve REACT’s
overall ability to be an effective communications partner for the emergency
management community.
